Great news! Legacy Family Tree Webinars has just released DNA Academy.
DNA Academy is a three-part series designed to introduce the basics of DNA for genetic genealogy and how Y-DNA, X-DNA, mitochondrial and autosomal DNA can be utilized. Each of these different types of DNA serves a different function for genealogists – and reveals different matches and hints for genealogy.
- DNA Academy Part 1 introduces genetic genealogy basics, then, Ancestry’s DNA tools – including their new pricing structure for DNA features. Click here to view.
- DNA Academy Part 2 covers FamilyTreeDNA’s products. Click here to view the webinar, which includes:
- Y-DNA for males which tracks the direct paternal line
- Mitochondrial DNA for everyone which tracks your direct maternal line – your mother’s mother’s mother’s lineage
- Autosomal DNA which includes matches from all of your ancestral lines and along with X-DNA matching, which has a very distinctive inheritance path.
- DNA Academy Part 3 includes MyHeritage, 23andMe, and third-party tools such as DNAPainter and Genetic Affairs. Click here to view.
Legacy Family Tree Webinars has graciously made Part 2, the FamilyTreeDNA class, free through August 22nd for everyone – so be sure to watch now.
After August 22nd, Part 2 will join Part 1 and Part 3 in the webinar library for subscribers with more than 2240 webinars for $49.95 per year.

Hello. How can ancestry dna matches help in finding an unknown male third great grandfather?
Third generation is difficult. I would eliminate all the other matches using shared matches, then look for commonalities in the trees of the people you can’t assign. Start with your closest matches and work your way back.
Thanks for the nice webinars Roberta! I’m really looking forward to the new MitoTree and MitoDiscover. Can you maybe tell us when is FTDNA planning to release these new features? Last thing I heard was “sometime in 2024”.
I don’t know but I do know the work is ongoing.
Such a great information . i wana know more about the family tree maker and ancestry website.
