Family Tree DNA 2017 Holiday Sale Begins

I’m still on the road, but wanted to get this to everyone as soon as possible. I’ll resume my normal publication schedule soon. In the meantime, great news for anyone wanting to purchase DNA kits for the holidays. As most of you know, Family Tree DNA has a holiday sale every year that begins about this time in November – and today is the day!

They’ve announced this year’s holiday sale prices below.

Additionally, if you are a current customer, check your account home page for a Holiday Reward, which is an additional discount on something.

The holiday reward coupon can be applied one time only in ADDITION to the sale price.

Click this here to sign on, check your holiday reward, and order a new kit or upgrade an existing one. This is a great time to purchase kits for those holiday visits.

Is there no pricing for upgrading just to the big Y from 111 markers or is it still 475.00?

Thanks Happy Travels on your way back to the US!!!

  2. Roberta: I got back FT DNA returns last month (MTA and family finder). Doesn’t the family finder have people who share my father’s DNA? My dad, his dad, and his grandfather lived in a German-Catholic town in Missouri, where the baptisms/marriages/deaths are very well documented by the church, going back to the mid-1850’s. I’ve done an extensive tree of my great-grandfather’s descendants, and none of the names see to show up in my matches. I guess it’s possible that because their ancestors are so well documented, and marriages were mostly kept within the German-Catholic community, that maybe my paternal matches didn’t find the need to take a DNA test? I’m female, by the way, if that makes a difference.

  3. Lynne,

Now is a good time for your family to try yDNA while it is on sale. Family tree is the only one of the big three genealogical testing companies that tests yDNA. Ancestry and 23&me only test autosomal. Autosomal is good in some ways because it tests both parental and maternal, but you have to figure out which side your match is on. The yDNA follows the father into the dark ages.

I put it out about the radiation on the PROGEN mailing list. Only one person answered and said they did not think it would hurt unless they were treating the mouth. I don’t know.
