  2. A relative has tested the basic mtDNA back in March. Do you know if a discounted price is available to upgrade to the “full sequence” mtDNA? The web site gives two upgrade options, CCR5 for $39 and mtHVR1toMega for $169. I was hoping that the mtHVR1toMega was the same as getting a full sequence mtDNA and that it would be available at a lower price given the sale. Thanks for any help, your web site is great!

  3. Hi Roberta, I’ve been reading your posts, but…I’ve forgotten which is the whole shebang, so to speak. I mean the one that shows medical as well as other info. Is that the Family Finder? AND as I’m getting it for my husband shall I get the Family Finder- Ydna combo? I’m one of these ‘if one is good, three or four are better’, kind of gals. I’d like to cover as many bases as possible. Your suggestion?

    • The test at 23andMe gives the medical, but they don’t do the Yline or the mtDNA private mutations and matches. You’ll have to do that at Family Tree DNA. Family Tree DNA does the autosomal too, but not the medical part. You can do the autosomal test at 23andMe and transfer your results to Family Tree DNA, but the cost is close to the same and might be less if you purchase it as a package of yline, mtdna and FamilyFinder at FTDNA. So you’ll have to decide which is the best choice for you. Depends on if you want the medical because if you do then the autosomal should be through 23andMe.
